See where the great surrealist conjured his visions
Dalí Day Trip: Figueras & Cadaqués
If other worlds exist inside ours, as Salvador Dalí believed, our best chance of finding them is to go looking where he did.
This day tour takes you by luxury vehicle, with a private guide and driver, to the wellsprings of inspiration for the great Catalan painter. First to his birthplace in Figueres, and then to the fantastical Theatre-Museum that he designed himself, with its iconic, geodesic, Disney-like dome, draws kids and adults alike into his “hallucinatory world of surrealism”. Dalí was laid to rest in the crypt below, amid chambers filled with his paintings, sculptures, collages and curios.
Then it’s on to the quaint, whitewashed fishing village of Cadaqués, where you’ll take a stroll around the bay that Dalí often drew into his work. He studied it through the warped picture windows of the Portlligat House-Museum, where the artist lived for half a century, splicing a cluster of fishing cottages into his singular dream home. Wandering that labyrinth of trick-mirrors, stuffed swans and phallic pools is as close as you’ll get to the inside of his mind.
